DCDLS Still Interested in LeBreton Redevelopment

See, when other teams have off-days it includes things like debating line combinations, analyzing upcoming opponents or breaking down recent performances.

Not in Ottawa though. In Ottawa, we use our down time to discuss high-stakes drama related to the billion dollar development deal that may determine the future of the franchise.

Never a dull moment around these parts.

Last night at around 10:30 PM, there was an interesting twist in the percolating situation that is LeBreton Flats.  DCDLS, the other bid to redevelop the major piece of real estate, let it be known that they are ready to step in should the NCC be looking for an alternative to the floundering RendezVous LeBreton bid.

Here’s how they put it.

“We are confident that our vision, tempered by the recent work of the NCC and the City will be embraced by all.  With respect to hockey, the National Winter Sport of Canada, we will still include a portion of land adjacent to the LRT station reserved for the exclusive construction of an NHL arena.  We do not believe that Ottawa or Canada should be held hostage one day longer.”

On the surface, this doesn’t mean much.

What really matters is how the NCC chooses to handle this latest development.  Word is DCDLS reached out to the NCC previously to let it be known they were still interested.

That they are now going the more public route doesn’t seem like a great sign but it definitely turns up the heat on the RendezVous group and will almost certainly grab the league’s attention heading into the NHL Board of Governors meetings this week.

It’s crazy to think that I wrote this almost three years ago and that I could just publish it again as is.

The amount of time that has been wasted to this point is infuriating.

Actually, while we are revisiting old articles, this one from July of last year probably still works too.

Hell, this one from almost five years ago still applies. Although I might tinker with the part about “young stars like Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan”.

Seriously though, enough is enough.
