Game Day- Sens, Oilers on Trade Deadline Eve

Still one day until the NHL Trade deadline and the madness has already started. A flurry of afternoon deals sent the hockey world into a frenzy that culminated with Roberto Luongo being dealt from Vancouver to Florida. And based on some of the talk out there right now, the fun may just be beginning.

And as exciting as tomorrow is going to be, the Ottawa Senators have some business to take care of on the ice first.

The Senators will look to build on a big win in the Heritage Classic when they visit the last place team in the Western Conference- the Edmonton Oilers. It should go without saying at this point but this is another huge game for Ottawa. The playoffs are a long shot at this point but the only way the Sens are going to have a shot is by winning a whole lot of hockey games. This is one they desperately need.

The Sens Army was abuzz earlier today when the team announced they had placed Cory Conacher and Joe Corvo on waivers. Conacher isn’t expected to clear tomorrow so he could very well be playing his last game in an Ottawa uniform. And he’ll do so on the team’s top line. Joe Corvo and Matt Kassian will both be healthy scratches. Here is how the Senators are expected to line up.

Michalek-Spezza-Conacher
MacArthur-Turris-Condra
Hoffman-Zibanejad-Ryan
Greening-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Phillips-Ceci
Wiercioch-Gryba

Craig Anderson gets the start in the Ottawa goal. Puck drop is scheduled for just after 9:30 PM.

  • Lorenzo72

Vezina contender Bishop… and we have Conacher. It was “great” deal.

    • Jacques

Get over that, we weren’t going To keep 3 goalies and we drafted Lehner. Shit happens, that’s sports. Now come on Murray join the Frey!

    • MacK

Turris for basically a 2nd rounder (less than that actually) makes up for it…

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

        Nothing makes up for that

        • A-Train

Did it really look so bad at the time? Conacher had shown more in the NHL than Bishop had by the day of the deal.

And besides, Bishop’s having a good season but we should wait another year before calling him the Next One.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I was not a fan of moving him at the time….you don’t move a goalie of that size with that athleticism.

          • Sensnation

Would you have moved Anderson or Lehner instead, or just kept all 3? I was never big on Conacher as the return personally, but I felt Bishop or Anderson had to be moved.

          • BFR

I wasn’t a fan of moving out Bish for Conacher either, but I wasn’t privy to the other options offered. Bishop looked good in a lot of games, but I do remember him getting scored on frequently 5 hole. Wasn’t sure if that was teams having him move east-west to exploit a weakness or not, but his next year has been very good. There are no gaurantees he will continue this play next year.

            Feel better?

  • Sensnation

Hoping to see more Hoffman tonight. Really liked what he brought last game and hoping he and Ryan can get each other going!

    GO SENS GO!!!

  • MacK

So who has first dibs on Conacher?

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

There better be something massive tomorrow. .. I can’t ever remember being so down on what has/hasn’t transpired with this team.

  • karlssens

We don’t need something big. Just something that will help past this season.

    • Jacques

Just a decent forward and a D man like Erhoff will make me feel better tomorrow please Uncle Bryan!

  • Sens613

I forgot there was a game today because of all of the trade buzz…lol. Huge road trip for us and need 2 points in all of these games, 1 point won’t be enough.

Conacher gets 1 g 1 a tonight before he leaves(don’t mind if he stays in Binghamton).

    Go Sens Go!!!

  • Gordon of Riverworld

Oh yeah – there is a game today

  • karlssens

Chirp can you shed any light onto the Conacher situation as to why he was waived and not traded? Not sure if you know anything specific about it or not. Seemed like there was interest.

    • SensChirp

Interest but nobody willing to give anything up, it seemed. Senators clearing a roster spot

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Oh you mean no one was willing to move a top end goalie…. Shocking

  • Floridasensfan

So do we leave Cowen in Edmonton Tonight in a trade lol
Really hope to see BM makes some nice moves.

  • bluebuyyoo

Wow! Game day post! There’s a game today? :-)

  • CC

i wonder if BM pulls the trigger on any moves this deadline

    • Gordon of Riverworld

I wonder who wrote the book of love

    • SensChirp

I would be shocked if we didn’t see at least one deal from Murray tomorrow.

      • CC

the BM comments yesterday indicated that he’s not going to sell significant assets, i think 9mm stays put.

  • MacK

It would be nice to have Conch down in Bingo for some extra offensive power for a Calder Cup run. Let’s hope his road leads to Bingo…That feels kinda mean to say though because I like him a lot and am sure he’d love to be playing on an NHL roster.

    • Gordon of Riverworld

If Corvo clears waivers will he bother reporting to Binghamton ?

      • CC

i don’t see why. unless he needs to in order to collect his paycheck. I’d honestly rather the young guys play.

      • MacK

good questions…I’d assume so if he plans to play hockey in the near future.

  • Andrews theory

I’m generally a fan of Murray but this move with Conacher sticks like shit!
I understand that you need to clear space, why not waive Kassian or Greening for that matter. Conacher has a ton of upside and we gave away a potential Vezina goalie for him.
    cmon…..

    • A-Train

Gotta say I don’t understand it either. And he’s playing on our top line in a must-win game? Weird stuff.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I am holding off saying what I currently think of Murray until the deadline is over.

    • CC

i say Greening as more upside than Conacher, both overall value is not very high.

      • sben

I think it is more that greening has a line to play on whereas Conacher is kind of stranded because spezza and michalek aren’t clicking with him. What I think should be done is the zib and conacher chemistry should have been rekindled and hoffman would move up to spezza’s line and see how that works. I guess maclean didn’t see it or maybe thought about it but doesn’t like it.

    • Sensnation

Whether he has more potential or not, he’s not fitting in on the vision of this team and hasn’t been tradeable. At some point just need to move on and let him play somewhere else. We shall see, maybe this will light a fire for him and everything starts to click. He needs to click with Spezza to work on this team.

      • Jacques

        Nobody clicks with Spezza!

  • Andrews theory

on another note, how in the hell was Gillis allowed to make any of his recent moves. If I’m a Nucks fan, I’m burning his house down…

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I am a big Markstrom fan…but gotta say I think they could have gotten more(although east to say)…I have a feeling this was more of a Luongo, go enjoy life…the grind here is BS.

      • CC

it’s the cap hit. had to go to a team with deep pockets.

  • luckan20

It was a bad move to put a young guy who was acquired via trade. Also, BM was boasting that he made right choice in the trade. It was bullshit. BM hands down lost in Bishop trade. We know how BM succeeded in Turris deal.

Rundbald and Brisebois (both Ds) moved by Coyotes for a 2nd round from Chicago.

    • CC

does Runblad see icetime this year?

      • luckan20

Rundbald did play 12 games with one solitary assist.
We could snap him off by trading Corvo. It will be a win/win for us. He will develop better under Luke Richardson.

        • Perry

          Rundblad was traded to CHI.
And I wouldn’t want to “snap him off” anyway

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Must win game.

    Go Sens

  • Dirtysweetness

I bet ya that we end up taking Hemski with us after the game.

    • Sensnation

He’ll find a way to get injured during the game.

      • Colin

        We can only hope.

      • Rimshot Rondelet

        LMAO

    • sben

I don’t think Ottawa is in the discussions there. I heard PIT and another team that wasn’t ottawa (I forget) were interested.

  • Jacques

The way I see it, Anaheim will pick up kesler. They have the extra first rounder, Palmieri and another good young forward to offer. The Sens will probably pick up Stewart and Ehroff for Prince , Cowen and another couple of assets plus our second rounder , all to T. Murray’s liking.

Chicago and L.A will be looking to keep up with St. Louis and Anaheim, this will make Spezza attractive to them. I find it a little strange that Chicago picked up 2 D-men. Chicago will be the suitor for Spezza. Something like a first, Leddy or Hjalmarsson and a young prospect. And to finish up we’ll trade Phillips for a pick.

    My prediction for tomorrow.

    • Jacques

And if all else fails we inquire about Connolly, just for you Sensnation!

      • Sensnation

        Thanks bud! ;)

    • Perry

      BM isn’t trading Spezza tomorrow

      • Jacques

        Well Chicago has inquired!

        • Perry

          There are levels of inquiry

          • CC

they’ve also sent a post card for redden. i tell you, it’s an Ottawa reunion in Chicago.. Ottawawa 5.0

        • SensChirp

          Says who?

    • FistsofNeil25

      You’re dreaming man

  • CC

    Erat move pretty irrelevant.

Erat and an AHLer for 2008 2nd rounder and top 8 vet d.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I am predicting… We do next to nothing or go nuts

    Michalek
    Philips
    Stone
    Prince
    Cowen

    Kane
    Byfuglien

If Murray pulls something like this…. I will forgive the bishop deal

    • CC

nope, won’t happen. Jets are in the hunt, Buff isn’t going anywhere.

    • sben

sens have already pulled out all talks with winnipeg. Ain’t happening. I’m waiting for prince to be in a package with someone else. Phillips won’t be traded unless a pretty good deal comes up. Cowen or michalek won’t be traded I don’t think.

    • Sensnation

I’d give up anyone for Kane. Not as big on Byfuglien, but Kane is what this team needs up front.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Here’s hoping Shane Prince stays within the Sens organization. Good young player waiting in the wings for us one day. Won’t be sorry.

  • sben

    steve lloyd:

As of now, I’m told a deal between the #Sens & #Sabres is doubtful. Prices are still high, so that could change tomorrow. #TradeCentre

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Good. It wouldn’t have helped anyways.

      • SensChirp

        Don’t dismiss it just yet.

    • Sensnation

Tim’s just trying to get the most possible out of his assets. Prices will get reasonable end of tomorrow. He won’t have much to trade aside from prospects or picks for a long time after this year.

  • CC

No clue why people seem to think that Jets would want to trade Kane and Buff when they are only 2 points out.. Also, don’t know why you would think 2 prospects and 3rd liners would be sufficient to pull 2 key pieces to Ott.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

because they have said multiple times they would move them…and over multiple years.

  • sben

Where the hell are you gds???!!!!

    • SensChirp

Banned him. Tired of him stealing the show.

  • Tim

    Alfie just lost 2 teeth

    • sben

      pageau #2

  • SuckitPhaneuf

    Relax
Bishop has won as many cups as conacher

Murray has a habit of pulling off something no one expected

  • sben

Darren Dreger: No fewer than 6 teams showing interest in Ales Hemsky.

Brennan, ward both think that sens may be possible destinations for cammaleri

    • Colin

Dreger is praying that there is something to talk about tomorrow. So many trade deadline days have been duds.

  • SuckitPhaneuf

Why in the hell would we want hemsky.

    Lets not get desperate

    • sben

especially when there are so many other candidates. Sens were interested in him at the beginning of the year because they had no one else. There is no need to get someone that is so delicate when you don’t have to.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    GO SENS GO!!!!!!

  • savagestix

Perron, parenteau or simmonds would be awesome no hemsky, stewart or moulson

    • FistsofNeil25

Parenteau is closer to Hemsky territory than he is to Perron or Simmonds.

      • Dirtysweetness

Simmonds would be the best fit. -At least I think

        • FistsofNeil25

He would be a great fit for sure but I highly doubt he’s available. He’s Philly’s second leading scorer.

  • Richard Gough

I am starting to like the idea of Cammy as a Sen but what will Calagry want In return ?

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

      Probably a new tie.

      • Richard Gough

        And a hair cut lol

    • Colin

Pugnacity and truculence. Is Lessard still in our system? :-)

      • Richard Gough

        Don’t know

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Detroit lost! Lets do his boys. Get the 2 pts. Ryan Mccarthur Turris (2) and sens win 4-2

    • FistsofNeil25

Detroit lost but New Jersey and Columbus won. We need to keep pace!

  • T K

So happy for puck drop. I get so tired of hearing about peoples’ LSD induced trade fantasies

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Turris takes a huge hit! Gets up like the small champ he is. Beauty

  • T K

There was always something weird about watching games in this rink and I think that I just figured it out. The camera is behind the player benches rather than facing them.

  • Millennium

    Eakins looks like Dr. Who

    • Richard Gough

He is the worst Doctor Who I have seen funny he does look likes the 10 th Doctor

  • CC

    nice pass!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Nice passing play by Milo

  • Moudy Mahfouz

    DA CAPTAIN

  • T K

    Oh captain, my captain

  • FistsofNeil25

Great play Milo. Nice finish Spezz!

  • GS86

did milo just say “hope thats not the last one”

  • GS86

could this be our roster after the game

    -Spezza-
    MacArthur-Turris-Condra
    Hoffman-Zibanejad-Ryan
    Greening?-Smith-Neil

    Methot-Karlsson
    -Ceci
    Wiercioch-Gryba

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I’d like Milo to come back with the Sens, guys. I think he has a place on the team.

    • Spoons

      Boooo… lol

    • Millennium

The mild turn around he’s had over the last dozen games doesn’t merit $6M/yr. Move him if anyone wants him. Can get as much production for half the cost elsewhere.

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

        I don’t think there’s a chance he’d ask to re-sign for 6 million.

        • Millennium

I’m never surprised what players can and will get from teams that overvalue them.

    • FistsofNeil25

I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing him back but I wouldn’t want to see the Sens give him much $$$ or term.

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

        Agreed.

  • Spoons

If Cowen gets traded to EDM, that means we get Yakupov in return. I’d be pissed! Cowen will be a solid player one day (I still have hope), but Yakupov is just a bum.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Not saying the standings arent close enough but look how much more of a window the Sens would have if it were the standard top 8 conference. Would be a MUCH more interesting race

  • Perry

    oh the irony….

    • Andrews theory

Too funny not to thumb up…lol

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Chris Phillips…………………

  • FistsofNeil25

    hmmmm so Hemsky ehhh?

  • karlssens

That my friends is why we don’t resign that old fart

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I hope to God we don’t re sign Chris Phillips we can’t have that anymore.

    • Jacques

Hemsky went around Phillips like a pylon,

  • Mark

    For fuck sakes. 1-1

  • MacK

    Hemsky for Cowen?

  • BFR

    Hemsky looked pretty soft there….

    • Jacques

Yeah exactly couldn’t help our great team!

  • Millennium

Phillips looked like his feet were in cement. Talk about losing a stride, he lost all of them.

  • FBP

Sooooooo a fourth round pick you say?

    • Jacques

      Haha

  • Jacques

Like I’ve been saying Hemsky can play! You have to put him on a good line!

    • Colin

      No.

  • Mark

We need to beat these low class, high draft pick hogs.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

That play shows why we need DEFENCE, not more forwards.

  • Andrews theory

Phillips has been beat the exact same way for a countless number of goals this year….

    • karlssens

      He’s just so bad.

  • Sensnation

That speed from Hemsky would beat most NHL dmen!

    • Andrews theory

He just tried the same thing on Methot…different result

      • Jacques

He meant most washed up D-men lol

  • GS86

hemsky for greening and 6th…he just did more than greening has this season

    • MacK

      they don’t need greening…they need defence…hmmm…Phillips? :P

      • GS86

i dont think it would take much for hemsky maybe even just a 3rd

  • Jacques

They treat Hemsky like crap get this guy outta there and he’ll be magic!

  • Millennium

So one goal from Hemsky since January and all of a sudden we want him? Jesus guys, get a handle on your opinions.

    • Jacques

There was a 3 week break for the Olympics and those dummies had him playing on third or fourth line. They only put him on the second to showcase him,

    • MacK

we’re not talking about selling the farm for him…there has been chatter for years about picking him up, this isn’t new. The thought is that if given the right linemates, he’ll be a gamer!

    • GS86

if u give up a 3rd at most, you pull the trigger

  • Deadly

Would he be an upgrade over CC beside Spezza?

    • FistsofNeil25

      is that a serious question?

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

        LOL.

    • Jacques

      Obviously

  • GS86

if we could get hemsky for a 3rd than somehow grab Cammy id be happy

  • T K

Conacher trying too hard to be noticed tonight. He’s gotta keep it much more natural and stop forcing things

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Pretty sure Spezza is showing us how good he could be at times. This is his best period of hockey all season. Hes flying Repping him by wearing my Spezza jersey

    • Jacques

Spezz wants out, he’s trying tonight! Lol

  • Guest

if u give up a 3rd or less for him you do it

    • Jacques

Hemsky will cost a second for sure!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    We need Karl to dominate.

  • Mark

Bobby Ryan can’t skate. I get frustrated watching him because he is so damn slow. It’s like watching a website load back when I had dialup.

    • karlssens

From all the players on this roster, you bring up Ryan’s deficiency? Wowza..

      • Spoons

        LOL

        • Moudy Mahfouz

I second Karlssens comment lmao. So much negativity from fans hahahaha

      • Mark

Nobody’s immune haha. I get confused when Cowen isn’t around to bash.

    • Deadly

Did we get him for his scoring or skating ?

      • Mark

How much has he scored lately? He’s been cold for a while.

    • FistsofNeil25

Honestly, I get the sense that he’s just “mailing it in” at this point. I don’t think he has much interest in playing here. He’s now playing on the third line and he’s been booted off the first powerplay unit. It doesn’t look like he has much of a future here. That’s just my opinion. I hope I’m wrong.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

Hes been one of our most consistent players all season…”mailing it in?” what does that even mean. He gets fired up when he scores and when the boys score. No player would mail it in

  • Spoons

Jesus guys! Hemsky is a rental. Doesn’t make sense for the Sens at this point.

  • karlssens

    Plays like that from
Phillips just piss me off so much.. I can’t handle two more years of that.. Not worth the “leadership”.

    • GS86

well anderson could have maybe poke checked the puck there

      • GS86

do u find that he never poke checks, how many shootout goals could he stop

  • Jacques

Ok. Murray make the trade for him now! So he has to leave and doesn’t score three tonight!

  • Cicero
  • karlssens

Ryan seems to love it here. The fans love him, he’s a star here, and we are a few years away from contending. He will stay. The only problem is, we need another top 3 player to take the pressure off.

    • GS86

would michael cammalleri be a good fit

      • karlssens

I don’t believe so. We need another player under 30 that can grow with the team. An Eberle or Kane would be ideal, but I doubt Murray makes a deal for one of them. He probably goes the top 6 route with Parenteau or Stewie.

        • GS86

e.kane and spezza sign me up, have stone or hoffman on the other side

    • Moudy Mahfouz

I agree, the only thing that worries me is his soon to be wife. Last time i checked she didnt even know where Ottawa was

  • T K

Disqus not tracking down-votes is bogus; just like awarding “participation” ribbons to the wankers that come in last in a grade school athletic competition. Ultimately valueless to everyone.

  • GS86

i always look outside into the sky and wonder what we would look like if Heatley stayed

    • Colin

Considering the Senators fanbase, Heatley would likely be covered in shit from head to toe.

      • GS86

id be open to bringing him back, if it wasnt for the way he left

    • T K

I was thinking about that earlier today. I think that the real problem was the wrong coach for that team (yes, pudgy, unfit Heatley may have been right). Look at how Tortorella has killed the life out of the canucks… I think that they are similar situations.

  • luckan20

Need badly two points from this game. I only noticed Spezza and Smith line are making some effort.

  • Mark

I have never seen a team get so many high draft picks and still stink like the Oilers. What is going on with that team?

    • Sensnation

      Built backwards!

  • karlssens

If Vermette was on our team, he’d be our leading scorer. LMFAO.

    • GS86

      klinkhammer would be second

  • Deadly

Will a mistake by greening wake this site up?

  • FistsofNeil25

Colin Greening is fucking junk man. He should have joined Conacher on waivers.

    • karlssens

      He’s unbearable

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Lucky.

  • Millennium

I’m confused by the message sent by this team by waiving Conacher then playing him with Spezza. “Sorry, you’re less valuable than 8 other wingers. Now go play with one of our best lines because we have no one better to play with them.”

    • karlssens

      Makes 0 sense.

    • Mark

I don’t either. There are other guys that have played far worse.

      • Millennium

        *cough*Greening*cough*

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

The goals will come guys. Wait.

    • Deadly

      You were right.

  • Mark

    What was Greening doing? Lol

  • Andrews theory

Other than the hall give away, it’s been a Sens pp for 90% of the game

It’s amazing they aren’t up by 3 already

    • Andrews theory

      Jinxed it

  • T K

Why is Pernell so prominent on the magazine?

    • T K

Potvin & I seem to notice some of the same things…

      • Millennium

Then you should see a doctor…

        • MacK

what were you saying about Hemsky? 2 now for him…he’d look good next to Spezza if you ask me…

          • Millennium

Have you really not looked into Hemsky? The guy is like Kovalev, but injury prone. He shows up and is amazing…then disappears for 15-20 games. Then misses 5 from an injury.

And for the record, I’d still take him over Greening if the asking price was a fourth like some guys are going for today.

  • karlssens

    LOL Ottawa

  • FistsofNeil25

Hemsky again. Is this some kind of sick joke?

  • Mark

Man, I knew this was coming. This is bullshit. Come on guys!!!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

lol this team ain’t makin the playoffs man

  • karlssens

    Less of greening Neil smith..

    • Mark

      Less of Greening.

  • CC

don’t know if i’ve seen one open ice hit yet.. wait for it..

    • BFR

Neiler should have finished the check on Hemsky at the blueline earlier. Might still have been tied.

  • karlssens

Sell sell sell! Let’s complete the rebuild!

  • T K

That oilers goal was made posible by two uncalled interferences at the faceoff

    • Deadly

      Damn right,it’s the refs fault.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

        saw that too

  • Andrews theory

It’d be funny if Murray tells Mactavish to pull Hemsky for the third lol…

    • Richard Gough

Pull the trade in the second intermission
Have Hemsky come out wearing a Sens jersey get his first goal as a Sen to tie up the fame

      • BFR

        3rd intermission? Whaaaa…..

  • FistsofNeil25

Note to Paul Maclean: remove Conacher and Condra from our top six asap

    • Millennium

Until BM gets him someone to replace them with, not too much PMac can do to be honest. Gotta play the players you get given sadly.

      • FistsofNeil25

Ryan, ZBad and Hoffman are all better choices.

      • Sensnation

Agreed, but with the skill we have I’d rather have 2 lines with skill then have it spread on 3 right now. Get Ryan and Zibanejad up with the big boys!

        • Millennium

Yeah I want Ryan back with Turris and Zbad back with Spezza, but they are committed to him at C it seems.

          • Sensnation

Very true. Will be interesting to see who stays there between him and Lazar.

    • MacK

What just about to state that it’s time to put Ryan back with Turris and Mac.

  • karlssens

I swear if this team looses to EDM it’s time to accept the fact that playoffs ain’t gunna happen.

  • BFR

Is there any precedent in trading for a player you are playing against in the second intermission?

  • Cicero

Stay positive! Our Sens can score in bunches,

  • Dirtysweetness

You gotta just love the compete level of our team tonight. All compounded by Spezza’s blind passes to the opposite team.

  • Mark

Fuck this is boring. Come on guys! Generate something.

    • FistsofNeil25

This has been a pretty gutless performance from the boys so far

  • karlssens

Potential season on the line: don’t show up. Yup, that’s the 2013-2014 sens!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Wait, why did Maclean split up Bob, Turris, and MacArthur? I don’t get it.

    • MacK

Because Ryan went goal-less for 6 games and after the Olympic break, MacLean tried to mixed things up to get Ryan going.

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

But it’s not working. Put him back.

        • MacK

          totally agreed!

    • Millennium

I’m guessing it was Ryan’s drought. Try to get him rolling with Zbad and Hoffman

  • karlssens

    Let’s go
    Boys!!!

  • CC

best players play? he’s rolling all 4 lines. move bobby back alongside turris-mac. put hoffman up with spezza and milo.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Good 1st period. Awful 2nd period. Good 3rd period (I hope) Lets go boys

  • FistsofNeil25

    68-19-93 for a shift…

    • CC

finally.. he switches up the lines.. and look at that, bobby almost netted one instantly

  • Mark

Detroit lost. Need to win tonight.

  • Millennium

unless you love Greening more than Bobby Fucking Ryan, don’t look at TOI stats for this game.

    • Colin

Actually, Ryan has the lowest TOI of *ALL* skaters.

  • Sensnation

    Wow! What a save!

Ryan finally back up on top!

  • MacK

    Bobby was just robbed…

  • Andrews theory

Hoffman just seems to create out of nothing…

Just need the points to come

  • Mark

What a shut period. This team needs a lot of work.

    • Mark

      *shit

  • MacK

confused by Greening play choice there…He lead in on a 3 on 1 and went to the boards to create a 3 on 3…weird.

  • Andrews theory

I’m confused how we are losing

  • karlssens

The mighty oilers are holding us to one goal.

  • FistsofNeil25

I would be a satisfied fan if all Murray did between now and the deadline tomorrow is dump Colin fucking Greening.

    • Millennium

I’d PAY a team to take him at this point. Waste of space.

    • Mark

I still don’t get why Murray locked him up with that contract. For a player with his size and speed he just doesn’t bring enough.

  • Richard Gough

Ok Murray let pull the trigger on a Hemsky trade

    • Mark

      Hell no

  • karlssens

Greening actual IQ: off the charts
Greening hockey IQ: tumbleweed in the desert

  • luckan20

At shot count both teams are tied. Hit count Oilers 22 to 7. Basically they elevated the game in the 2nd period and PM was out coached. Finally, PM decided to revert back the lines.

  • Cicero

I just don’t get the hate on Greening. He’s a catalyst in the one line that
all season long has consistently forced play in the opponent’s end more
than in our own. 14-15-25 has often ignited comebacks by stealing
momentum and dealing out punishing checks. Greening is arguably one of the team’s best forecheckers and always works hard, especially on along the boards. Great, underappreciated role player.

    • karlssens

Respectfully disagree. Pay a scrub 1 million to do exactly what he does.. On a budget team you can’t afford a plug like him wasting space.

    • MacK

A couple of years ago when he first started showing promise as a power forward with a ton of speed, I got all excited that we had found someone to play with Spezza. Then he totally disappeared…I’m just more disappointed than anything, I don’t think he’s been playing to his full potential.

    • Millennium

Greening is a nonfactor. He is ineffective, and bring’s nothing that isn’t replaceable, and upgrade-able, at half the price. He’s a ghost, he makes bad decisions, and he doesn’t drive possession in any meaningful way.

  • luckan20

We can’t afford to lose ground, when the Jackets are winning , while Red Wings lost tonight. No urgency by our guys. We are not creating much scoring chances. The type of shots we are taking Scrivens will stop them all.

I have a funny feeling that we will lose tonight and BM start clearing dead weights if possible.

  • Mark

Ryan seemed annoyed during intermission interview. Was that a jab at coaching staff when he said he didn’t. Like switching line mates every 10 minutes. Lol

    • Sicilian

      Yah, I thought that too

    • Millennium

I’d be pretty pissed if I was getting team-low TOI as one of the leading scorers, and constantly getting jerked around the lineup

      • Mark

I hear ya. No coach has juggled lines this much since Murray coached them.

        • BFR

No, Clouston had the line blender too. Annoying as hell back then too.

          • Millennium

Yep, and he lost the room in no time. Blendering is the quickest way to coach yourself out of a job.

    • BFR

Absolutely. And I don’t blame him one bit.

    • MacK

Yikes, I don’t like that sound of that…if this continues, then there’s no way he’ll resign after next year and we will have lost Silverberg, Noeson and a 1st for nothing… *shakes head* not good…

    • Colin

If it was a jab, he should stop making excuses and start scoring some fucking goals. He has not played very well since prior to the USA Olympic announcement.

      • sben

Its partially his fault and partially the coaching staffs fault IMO. The coaching staff need to stop juggling and find a group which is successful. Waiving conacher won’t help because he had some chemistry with zib that could’ve been used but we got rid of him. See what happens at the deadline. Hopefully a good player is acquired and not a draft pick in a weak draft.

      • BFR

Historically, this time of year has been a drought for him. The coaching staff is making it worse with the lack of consitency in linemates.

  • T K

Can’t wait for the commercials for the under sold Cher show to stop. I’d only go if she had Sonny’s corpse on stage with her.

    • Mark

      Lmfao!!!

      • T K

Seems like we’ve been watching these commercials for more than a year…

  • sben

Hopefully things will improve with Maclean and Bobby RYan because he is getting frustrated switching lines every 10 minutes. Won’t sign with us at this rate.

  • CC

it’s do or die. sit conacher, condra, 6-7-16 93-19-9 swap in hoffman once and a while. 14-15-23

  • Dirk-Diggler

hahaha Greening was picking his nose on the bench… That’s the only gold he’s found all night!

    • sben

      lol

  • Richard Gough

Starting to look like Phillips is stay put
    Bast on Hockey Buzz

  • Sensnation

What a zone entry by Spezza!

  • FistsofNeil25

That Spezza dangie on Smyth was siiick.

  • Cicero

Cpt. Jason Spezza leading by example.

  • MacK

Nice to see Spezza flying like that!

  • Dirk-Diggler

    Now selling… EVERYONE

    • MacK

This whole selling thing just bugs the heck out of me…I can’t stand that we don’t enough have a 1st rounder in this years draft.

      • sben

        weak draft

  • karlssens

    This is fucking Edmonton!’

  • Mark

What a fucking joke. It’s the Oilers! Man I’m pissed tonight.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

    Sellers..Must win tomorrow night!

  • Andrews theory

Pw needed to stick with his man there….for fuck sakes!

  • Sensnation

Wiercioch not taking the man or puck, gets stuck in no man’s land.

    • FistsofNeil25

Doing his best Jared Cowen impression ;)

  • MacK

why is it that we can’t seem to have more than 1 player flying at a time…it seems like 4 out of 5 skaters are sleeping for us every shift.

  • FistsofNeil25

Losing a must win game against the second worst team in the league. Disgraceful.

  • sben

sellers, no playoffs this year. Lazar next year will be good.

  • karlssens

This is better. I’d rather be a seller.

  • sben

I find it ridiculous that this team is always able to amaze us with wins over teams like St. Louis and San Jose but teams like edmonton they lose both games of the season to. I don’t understand.

    • Laurence Babchyuk

Consistency… Look at our captain, king of inconsistency

      • Colin

Actually, Spezza has been one of the best players on the ice tonight.

        • Laurence Babchyuk

Yes, but…. Are we winning ?
          Tonight he has been ok

          • Disqus Downvote

            Stupid goalpost dragging reply.

      • sben

and we’re building around him. When you want to name a captain it is better to name a captain that is mediocre at everything than really good at one thing than crappy at another. Spezza has amazing offensive abilities and can skate pretty well too but the inconsistency and defensive deficiencies are too much for a team to build around. In no way am I blaming Spezza for this game in specific. I don’t blame him for anything. I think he was a bad choice for the captain but then again at the time he seemed like the best candidate. It is just unfortunate.

        • Laurence Babchyuk

He is having a good game, but inconsistent. I reply to the question, why are we a good club vs a good team and lose vs bad club ?. Normally it’s leadership that will bring consistency. With spezza they are a .500 club. It’s a fact, is it his fault that they are losing tonight ? No

          • sben

I know but I’m trying to be fair because the spezza lovers are extremely sensitive.

          • Laurence Babchyuk

That’s ok lol, I wish I was a Spezza fan, I really would love to buy his jersey and say… God he’s a great leader, the team plays better with him in the line up and that I don’t wish he get hurt so that we can go on a 5 game winning streak. I really would like it !

          • Colin

You guys are too much. Spezza has the only goal in a losing game and he is the problem. Never mind that the defense is simply useless and the forwards are full of plugs. Wayne Gretzky couldn’t lead this bunch into the playoffs.

          • Laurence Babchyuk

God, I was sure they were gonna score on that

  • T K

Someone needs to screen the goalie

  • Mark

Maclean and his stupid fucking lines are constantly stifling any offence. Enough is enough!

  • T K

My scream just woke kids in BC!

  • Sensnation

    Sooo close!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    How is this happening.

  • karlssens

Spezza is not to fault, he’s been the best sen tonight.

    • FistsofNeil25

He’s been by far the best Sen tonight. Not even close. Everyone else is playing like trash.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

I am very frustrated thank god tomorrow is a new day and if we dont make a couple trades tomorrow we arent in the playoffs

    • sben

I don’t think trades will change our playoff outcome. That is up to the team not individual players.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

This team needs a shakeup. Defensively if possible! We can compete with top dogs but suck agaisnt shitty fucking teams.

  • Dirk-Diggler

Greening, Phillips, Neil, Michalek and Condra should all be available. All can be replaced with prospects or guys we bring in through trade. This shit has to stop.

  • Mark

Good job breaking up the MacArthur, Turks, Ryan line Maclean you friggin tool.

  • karlssens

This game is bigger than you guys think.

    • FistsofNeil25

I think we all realize how big this game is…hence the frustration. Their season is pretty much on the line.

    • Mark

We know it’s huge. What a let down. I was at the Detroit game which was also big and we sucked.

  • MacK

Is PMac reading our posts during commerical break? He finally reunited the Ryan-Turris-Mac line!

    • Mark

I’ve hated Maclean since we got him. He obviously knows more than we do but his decisions don’t make any sense. His ideas are strange and lately don’t work.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

I hate to say this but if we lose tomorrow agaisnt Calgary. I will indeed throw in the towel. I am not one to quit until game 82 but man I am very frustrated

  • karlssens

No one but spezza showed up this game. Maybe Milo.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

At least we have pushed the pressure on this period…

  • Mark

    Scrivens outplaying Andy

    • MacK

      by a long shot

  • Andrews theory

Why did I stay up? Fuck….

  • T K

I don’t mind the odd loss (ok, a win tonight was desired) but I hate to see them lose to a Leasts goalie reject. They are beating the Oilers but not Scrivens

    • Millennium

Well given their track record, a Leaf reject goalie is actually going to be a decent goalie. Its the ones they keep that don’t pan out.

    • Colin

The Sens have made it a bad habit to make goalies look very good for much of the season.

  • MacK

Why did Scrivens have to come out of the Leafs organization? It makes what is happening tonight that much more painful…

  • Senators Pundit

As usual we are getting soundly out-defenced this game. These are the two worst defensive teams in the league, and it’s abundantly clear who belongs in the bottom.

  • Sensnation

    WOOOHOOO!!!!

  • T K

    There we go.

  • Laurence Babchyuk

    King karl

  • BFR

    Karl!!!

  • FistsofNeil25

    Let’s go boys… 3 minutes left!

  • MacK

    YES KARL

  • Mark

    I want to murder Potvin

  • Andrews theory

    Time for the Bettman PP

  • Moudy Mahfouz

I decided to turn my TV off before that goal and ill leave it off . ill take it for the team

  • Laurence Babchyuk

    Stupid Gryba

    • BFR

      That’s an uncalled boarding.

  • FistsofNeil25

Keep your composure Gryba you idiot!!!

  • Laurence Babchyuk

Gryba killed the game with that stupid play

    • FistsofNeil25

      What a fucking idiot.

  • Andrews theory

    Fucking idiot!

  • Mark

Gryba is a dumbass. Benched tomorrow. Stupid ass!!!

  • Senators Pundit

That’s what happens when you stock your blueline with children.

  • karlssens

    Jesus Gryba

  • Laurence Babchyuk

    Right when we had momentum

  • T K

And the high stick to Zib gets ignored.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    No boarding?

  • karlssens

    This is budget

  • Sensnation

He just got completely laid out, from behind, right in the numbers! Can’t fault a fighter to retaliate!

    • FistsofNeil25

Uhhh yes you can with the game and pretty much the season at hand. That was so selfish man.

      • Sensnation

It’s not Gryba’s fault we’re losing, and any other fighter would’ve done the same thing.

        • Andrews theory

A fighter wouldn’t have been thrown to the ground before throwing a punch lol…a fighter he is not

          • Sensnation

Our fans are so awesome! Such love for our team!

          • FistsofNeil25

            Every fanbase is the same.

          • Sensnation

At the pace you guys are moving, agreed. Toronto and Montreal here we come!

          • FistsofNeil25

Sorry for criticizing a player for taking a bad penalty. I didn’t realize that wasn’t allowed. My bad man.

          • Sensnation

If you can’t even understand why he had every right to retaliate, then not sure what to tell you. Not worth going overboard on a young player for something veterans would’ve done as well. Selfish cause you said so, standing up for himself is more like it.

          • FistsofNeil25

If you can’t even understand the importance of Gryba keeping his composure in that stage of the game, then not sure what to tell you.

I also wouldn’t really consider calling out a player for making a stupid decision going overboard. All I said was that he was an idiot for reacting that way under the circumstances but you then translate that as me saying it’s his fault we won’t make the playoffs. I didn’t go overboard at all.

It was a stupid, selfish decision. He’s gotta put the team first, not his retaliation.

      • Colin

That’s pretty harsh. No way Gryba gets blamed for the game. There is no way this team should have been down 3-1 to the fucking Oilers in the first place.

        • FistsofNeil25

I’m not blaming him for losing the game. I’m blaming him for taking a selfish penalty at a crucial part of the game when we were gaining so much momentum.

  • Andrews theory

I’d say its safe to say Gryba sits in Calgary tomorrow

  • FistsofNeil25

Spezza in beast mode tonight. Where has this guy been all season?

    • Laurence Babchyuk

King of inconsistency ! One good game for 3 bad game, sadly… Te team doesn’t follow him since he kills the flow with his style.

      • Disqus Downvote

You wouldn’t know style if it bit you on the ass!

  • Laurence Babchyuk

Now we would’ve got a PP ,oh well let’s go 4 on 4

  • Mark

Yes Gryba got run but common sense should prevail in a make or break game.

    • Sensnation

Many of you have been claiming make or break games for a third of the season. Now it’s Gryba’s fault we miss the playoffs lol.

  • karlssens

    Pathetic

  • Mark

    HUGE loss tonight.

  • karlssens

    Good season boys… Not

  • Laurence Babchyuk

God damn it, was a good third period. But the 2nd period was bad.

Didn’t had the peskyness. Well we ain’t pesky at all anymore

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Shit happens boys. HUGE GAME TMR and legit I am done on the hope I have in this team if we lose tmr

    • karlssens

Moudy it’s over buddy. This was the game. Buyers or sellers.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

:(..that actually made me sad man! Its not over just yet..I still have some sort of faith but man I hate being a sens fan right now

  • karlssens

Michalek, Phillips as good as gone? Maybe Cowen?

    • Millennium

Actually everything that’s being said sounds like you’re more likely to see all 3 tomorrow night in Calgary

      • Richard Gough

I am not looking forward to tomorrow games I might have to. Throw my jersey on the ice !!

  • Mark

    Suck it Gryba!!!!!!

  • Millennium

This sums up what is wrong with this team:

    Steve Lloyd ‏@TSNSteveLloyd 1m
Conacher’s on waivers. His 2nd shift of the period is on the PP at the end. Ryan on the bench for 6 on 4. #Sens

    • Colin

      Incredible.

    • luckan20

Sums it up with poor coaching.

    • FistsofNeil25

Conacher was the guy serving the extra 2 mins to Gryba. He was on the ice because he just came out of the box.

Still some head scratching decisions made by Maclean.

  • Andrews theory

Gotta win most of the games your supposed to win.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

I kinda hope Murray just shakes this team up tomorrow! Maybe get some fire under them for the 20 games remaining.

  • Andrews theory

Hopefully the biggest improvement over the summer is Macleans judgement…he’s over coaching

  • luckan20

Our coaches lost the game. Playing Smith line too much. Condra wasting Turris line. With the insertion of Ryan, Turris line had a fire.
Spezza played unbelievable game. Same goes with Karlsson.

BM trade guys who are not going to be part of the organization for long.

    • Roar…

Absolutely 100% agree. If the 3 lines that finished the game start the game, team wins easily.

      Hoffman-Spezza-Zibanejad
      MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Greening-Smith-Milo (or Condra in place of Greening which is actually better)

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Last post of the night being i get more frustrated. FUCK Colin Greening. Goodnight boys hopefully ill be in a better mood tomorrow. GO SENS GO

    • Moudy Mahfouz

      before*

    • Colin

Don’t go to bed so angry dude. Greening was bad, but the loss was on the team. One goal against the mighty Oilers through 56 minutes is pretty sad.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

You know why I hate Greening is that he gets more ice time then our leading goal scorer! Just frustrating man

        • Colin

That’s on the coach. Nothing new. Ice time allocation has been a strange thing all year long.

  • SensFanInMTL

Hoffman is doing everything but getting on the damn score sheet!

Things will pick up VERYYY quickly now, starting tonight hopefully.

  • karlssens

Don’t be stuck in limbo. Let’s sell what we have, and complete the rebuild. Build around Lehner, ceci, Hoffman, Zib, Turris, Ryan and Karl

    • SensFanInMTL

I don’t believe we can complete it in 14 hours dude. Too many holes to fill, starting from, everything.

  • Roar…

This organization has nobody to blame but themselves and its pathetic owner:
    1. Continued to play Colin Greening when Bingo has far superior options.
    2. Refused to sit Jared Cowen months ago
    3. Failed to spend in the off-season to bring in a Veteran Gonchar-esque player
    4. Continue to play Phillips more htan occasionally when we have better options in Bingo
    5. Left Alfie Walk in the summer despite having enough room to have him Ryan & MacT
    6. Neil & Greening getting undeserved minutes all year long
    7. Zibanejad’s limited minutes early in the year
    8. MacArthur-Turris-Ryan limited minutes quite frequently, especially Ryan.

The list just goes on and on. It’s been a shit show from start to finish and it starts at the very top. P-Mac has made questionable decisions all year. Murray’s done the best he can in a completely shit situation. Fuck the Euge. This is that drunk fucks fault.

  • SensFanInMTL

Buckle up boys! I just can just feel Murray phuckin blowing up in all needs. I can just sense it.

    • Colin

I dunno man. Right now Murray is probably thinking that there is not enough vodka in the hotel room to get him through the night. ;-)

      • SensFanInMTL

I feel even if Murray does something, especially if it’s drastic, I think it’ll be due to being in desperation mode and to pull the trigger from panicking. Season’s pretty much done in my eyes.

        • Colin

I would hope that Murray can see the writing on the wall and know when to fold.

          • SensFanInMTL

Listening to Ian Mendes on TSN Radio and he does make a good point. We’re gonna squeak by and face either Pens or Bruins in the first round, and actually think there’s a hope in hell that we will get passed them, let alone winning the Cup? Wow. So much shit that’s happening now. People are pissed with Greening & Condra. MacLean as well taking heat, Euge being Euge, trade Spezza! Michalek. Getting more furious if Phillips is still part of the team after 3 pm tomorrow. Man. Things are heating up.

  • MakesSens

Every one is on Maclean for Condra being on the Turris line, I don’t know if you noticed it didn’t get substantially better when Ryan jumped on instead. Stop blaming the coach and look at the owner that doesn’t want to give the coach some players to play with. Go on Capgeek.com and look at where the Sens stand on money spent on salaries. Then tell me how many of those teams in the bottom 9 are going to make the playoffs. There’s 1!

I have already said that Ryan has not played well since before the US Olympic snub. However, I cannot understand why, after two periods, he has the lowest TOI on the team. This is not the first time either. I am not a coach and I am not privy to Mac’s thoughts, but I would think that you would want one of your supposed best players on the ice as much as possible.

    • sell the team Eugene

but – but – but Melnyk said that Ottawa going to be BUYERS at the trade deadline

you know – SPEND MONEY to improve the team

    • BFR

Giving your scoring leader the lowest TOI is coaching. It will also be coaching to blame when he doesn’t re-sign.

      • Tooks

        EXACTLY THIS! Its mind boggling…

    • Jacques

Condra blows should have been on waivers too!

  • SuckitPhaneuf

    One thing is perfectly clear

If we make any moves tomorrow it is for next year cause this season just turned off the lights and left

    • sell the team Eugene

soooo – anyone up for a road trip to a Binghamton playoff game ?

  • Richard Gough

The Ducks must be laughing at use right now which I don’t blame then

So is it fair to say that we lost in the Ryan deal ? If so that is stick two for Murray ,in the trade department !!

    • SensFanInMTL

Good point. He must be so discouraged now that we have no choice BUT to turn this thing around next year. Otherwise I doubt he will want to stay past the 2014-2015 season.

  • sprucesens

please, let murray see that this team is not going anywhere with the current dead weight on this team. We’ve consistently shown that we can’t beat bottom feeders. We’ve shown, that when the core players play to their abilities, we can run with the elite. PLEASE move the deadweight, so we can consider all the players part of the core, and not have a hate on for any of them. Make it so we can’t be mad at the coach for not playing ryan, because the other options are almost just as good, instead of 1000x worse, and yet he chooses them anyway. Make it so we don’t have to hope the turris line with karlsson win’s us every game by themselves, or that spezza has a great game. They all need to be great.

If a rental is aquired, it better damn well be to sign them, reasonably. And it better damn well be to take the place of the deadweight. I’m glad i chose to fly to vancouver to see a win in person, than to stay in edmonton and watch them lose to the worst team in the league. (yes i know they have a couple more points than buffalo, and a few more thanks to us) I have tomorrow off, and it better be me celebrating all of the above being fixed, or i may have a tough time watching for the rest of the year. 1800$ invested for a weekend trip to van city, and merchandise only to come home to this crap. not, worth. my. money.

  • Captain Karl

If what I am hearing is correct, BM is planning on signing Phillips to a new 2 year deal. He is also planning on keeping Michalek for a playoff run and he is planning on bringing in a rental. WTF. Is he stupid or is he getting pressure from Melnyk. Whatever the reason it is absolutely mind boggeling that he is not taking the oportunity to get assets when we have a 14% chance at making the playoffs (8% if we lose to Calgary) I am going to be one pissed off fan if at 3pm tomorrow we are buyers and not sellers. Some names that should be going out are Michalek, Phillips, Greening and some others that would be nice to see gone are Cowen, Spezza. Why is it that all the GM’s for Canadian teams seem to have mental problems.

    • Richard Gough

That’s what happens when you eat to much beaver tails in Ottawa

    • MacK

I’m not sure you’ll feel any better this morning when you wake up…must have been a strong brew…

  • WaitingSince92

No one is going to want Greening, but I sure hope we deal Phillips and michalek. This is our last chance to get something for them.

  • Alex

Ok Sens fans I need A Favour I have the day Off, but I’m stuck in Rochester. Does anyone have a feed for tsn in the states?

  • my2sens

We need a new thread so we can talk trades. One without the disgusting reminders of last night’s fiasco.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Goodmorning boys, after sleeping on that loss I feel a little better. its a brand new day and something tells me Murray makes minor moves and nothing major (I hope the opposite) Happy deadline day!
