Wideman Signs One Year Deal

As first reported by the Wellington Diner (you gotta try the burgers), Chris Wideman is officially back for another season with the Ottawa Senators.

The team made it official this morning, announcing that they have signed Wideman to a one year deal worth just $1 million.  Wideman suffered a significant injury early last year but he looked like he was well on his way to a career year.

Wideman had 8 points through the first 16 games of the season and that’s despite playing primarily third pairing minutes.  Wideman is apparently 100% healthy and should be ready to go when the team hits the ice for training camp in September.

Goes without saying but this is a great deal for the Senators and an opportunity for the 28 year old Wideman to earn a longer term contract next summer.

Wideman had a chance to test free agency but after spending his entire career in the Sens organization, he made it clear his preference was to stay in Ottawa.
