The schedule and the calendar both keep telling me it’s time to move on but the truth is, I’m still stuck on Wednesday night.
There have been better moments in Sens history. More important ones too. But that game against the Florida Panthers will forever sit in a category of its own. There have been other returns and other organic fan-led movements but this really was one of a kind. It was one of those rare moments where the players took their game to another level, for the fans. It was like 18,000 individual Sens fans, without any planning or coordination or direction, came together as a single voice. And did so in a way that gained league-wide and probably continent-wide admiration and respect. From the media, from our rivals and from sports fans around the world. It was both hilarious and important. It was equal parts remarkable and simple at the same time. It was the perfect culmination for a fan base that had been burned by a player they once loved. It was about him but it was also about the others that had done it before. And a message to those that might do it down the road. Sens fans grew up that night. Honestly, it was all my favourite parts about this silly hobby rolled into one neat little package.
Okay, okay. I’ll try to move on. But frig that was great.
The Ottawa Senators host the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
Game day skate goes in a couple hours so we’ll see what Travis Green has in mind for a lineup a little bit later.

Heyyyy, what’s that beautiful thing down there?!
