Thoughts on Shea Weber Offer Sheet

SensChirp July 20, 2012 0

The news of the Shea Weber offer sheet has obviously dominated headlines around the league today.

It's an extremely aggressive move by the Flyers, an extremely frustrating move for the Predators and a really oddly unfortunately timed move for the National Hockey League. What happens next will be fascinating to watch. Preds can match, take the picks and run or try to strong arm the Flyers into a trade.

Either way, David Poile is certainly earning his salary this off season. Tough month or so in Nashville.

And while on the surface this may seem largely irrelevant to the Senators, there is a storyline that I'll be keeping an eye on.  If the Flyers do end up landing Weber, they may be looking to move out a contract for some increased flexibility against the cap.

A name that I can say with absolute certainty the Sens have looked at in the past is Danny Briere.  Moving a forward may not be the best approach for Philly at this point but if they consider moving Briere, the Sens could definitely show interest. While his contract isn't great, Briere would obviously fill that void in the Senators top six

If all goes according to plan, you can expect to see my article posted on the Sens Official Website at some point today.  Keep an eye out for a second post here on the site after that article is published.
