Senators Hire Travis Green as Head Coach

And just like that, Steve Staios has made one of the most important decisions of his off-season.

According to Darren Dreger, Travis Green is going to be the next Head Coach of the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators talked to a few different candidates in this search but over the last 48 hours or so, it became clear that Green had quickly found his way to the top of Ottawa’s list. And it’s safe to say that the rumours were met with a good degree of skepticism and concern from some fans.

The now 53-year old Green has just a shade under 1000 games of playing experience under his belt but his six seasons as a Head Coach have had some ups and downs. He helped a young Vancouver team turn things around early in his tenure there but struggled to recapture that success they had back in the 2019/2020 season. He was also thrown into the fire in New Jersey at the end of last season and posted a pretty underwhelming 8-12-1 record.

Ultimately though, the Senators needed to go with the guy that had a plan for this group and had ideas to help take this group of hockey players to the next level.

And according to Steve Staios, that guy is Travis Green.
