After a couple first round surprises and an early run on forwards, the Ottawa Senators suddenly found themselves in a spot where they could take whichever defenceman they wanted at 7th overall.
And in the end, they went with Carter Yakemchuk. The 6’3 right shot defenceman scored 30 goals last season with the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League.
Maybe not the name some were expecting to hear when the Sens stepped up to the mic but he was basically one of a handful of defenceman that woulda made a lot of sense at this spot.
He’s a right-handed defenceman with good size and great hands. Can contribute on offence and plays with an edge. What’s not to like, really?
