Patience is a virtue, as the ol’ saying goes.
And after months of waiting, Pierre Dorion finally got his guy. Jakob Chychrun is an Ottawa Senator.
It’s a price to pay obviously but for a team that had defensive needs both for the rest of the year as well as next season, it’s a risk worth taking. That they were able to protect that first round pick is an added bonus and avoiding the inclusion of a top flight prospect obviously helps too.
What’s key about Jakob Chychrun is he’s no rental. He has two more years on his deal at an entirely reasonable $4.6 million and considering his links to the area and his interest in playing here that dates back as far as September, you’d have to think he’s keen to be a part of what this team is building here.
Chychrun has been excellent since making his return to the Coyotes lineup, racking up an impressive 28 points in 36 games and showing that he is a true “all situations” defenceman. Oh and he’s just 24 years old.
Jakob Chychrun is expected to join the team in New York tomorrow night.
