Report- Senators Planning “Branding Relaunch”?

(UPDATE 10:45 AM)- A day after adding Chris Kelly to the team’s staff, the Ottawa Senators have bolstered their scouting ranks.  This morning, the organization announced that they have added three new scouts.  This has been an area that fans have been asking the team to address and it was something specifically referenced in Eugene Melnyk’s letter to fans about rebuilding this organization.  Hmm maybe listening to fans is part of this whole “branding relaunch”? Steps in the right direction the last couple days.

Over the weekend, Wayne Scanlan wrote an interesting feature on the team’s two latest hires.

Chief Operating Officer Nicolas Ruszkowski and Chief Marketing Officer Aimee Deziel were both hired in the last few months and for the most part, both have been pretty quiet.

Scanlan was able to speak to them directly though and find out a little bit about how the Senators plan to win fans back after a disastrous year and an ugly off-season.

The article is filled with hints about where the organization might be headed, especially in terms on in-game experience, but there was one little reference that jumped out.

Specifically, a “major branding relaunch” that will be based on an in-depth market survey the Senators carried out over the summer months.  The relaunch is expected to roll out in the next week or so.

While there were no specifics included in the article, branding can obviously mean a lot of different things.

Fans in Ottawa have been clamouring for a logo/uniform change for years now so that might be a good place to start. There is no real consensus when it comes to what direction they should go although it seems like almost everyone prefers either the heritage =O= or the old 2D logo over the current design.

The topic has been covered at length but something like this would be incredible…

This would be a big change this close to the start of a new season and there really haven’t been any signs that they are considering an overhaul to their look but it would certainly be well-received by the fan base.

At the same time, it’s possible that branding is more focused on things like advertising or in-game experience. Or maybe it’s the trading of their franchise player? Or just the hiring of Chris Kelly?

Either way, something to keep an eye on in the next week or so.
