Players Gather for Annual Golf Tournament

If the Rookie Tourny didn’t do it for you then the Annual Team Golf Tournament certainly should.

It’s one of those days die-hard fans have circled on their calendar. Or at least it’s one of those days just before the day fans have circled. Like last weekend’s tournament in Laval, the Sens hitting the links for a quick round is the last sign that a new season is finally upon us.

In normal years, it’s fairly anticlimactic. Guys show up. They talk about being in the best shape of their lives. They talk about having a team that can seriously contend. Then they go their separate ways and return for Camp the next day. And that’s sort of it.

But given the lingering drama that has surrounded the Ottawa Senators this summer, it’s safe that this could be one of the most interesting rounds of golf many of these guys have ever played.

Is that sufficient golf day hype? Okay good.

One thing we know for certain is that we won’t be hearing from Erik Karlsson today.

He ducked the media after an on-ice session at the SensPlex yesterday. All the players did actually. Karlsson let it be known that he plans to do the same thing again today. He will speak to the media for the first time in months when Camp opens tomorrow morning.

And while Karlsson may not plan on saying anything today, his teammates certainly will. We may even hear from the General Manager of the hockey team at some point. Imagine that.

Either way, it should be a fascinating day for Sens fans featuring plenty of quotes we can freak out about. Updates will be posted here throughout the day.

-Yesterday, Shawn Simpson of TSN1200 fame let it be known that he recently interviewed for the Assistant GM job with the Senators. The interview lasted five hours but it sounds like the team has decided to go in another direction. Based on some of the rumours I’ve heard about the type of hire they are going to make, I suspect their choice might not go over well with fans. We shall see.

-Thanks to everyone that took the time to submit their suggestions for ways that the organization can re-engage with fans. There were some really thoughtful ideas in yesterday’s comment section and honestly, a lot for the organization to work with. If everything goes as planned, I will have an opportunity to relay those suggestions to the team’s decision-makers in the not too distant future. Will be sure to keep everyone posted on that front.
