Melnyk, Watson and Ruddy to Meet at City Hall

Things have been pretty quiet of the LeBreton file for a few months now.

Considering the players at the table, that might be a good thing.

But today, we should have a better sense of where things stand on a project that has the potential to be a game-changer for the Senators organization and for the City of Ottawa.

While details are limited, word is that Eugene Melnyk, John Ruddy and Jim Watson will meet today at City Hall.  According to some, it’s primarily an information sharing event but it does sound like a photo op of sorts too.  Makes sense with Mayor Watson involved.

Presumably, the three will have some sort of update to share on the status of negotiations to finalize the master agreement for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats.  While that isn’t expected to happen until sometime next year, the RendezVous LeBreton group has been in active negotiations with the City, so perhaps there is some progress to report on that front.

It sounds like today’s meeting will be mostly cordial but anytime you put Melnyk and Watson in the room together, there’s a potential for fireworks.

Watson has been extremely critical of Melnyk in recent months, questioning his commitment to Sens fans, to the LeBreton project and allegedly suggesting to his buddy Daniel Alfredsson, that the Senators are in desperate need of new ownership.

Any chance this meeting is available on pay-per-view?
