Going with the =O=

The calls from the fan base to consider a full-scale re-brand have been loud and clear for years now.

It seems like the organization may finally be getting the message.

It certainly seems like the Ottawa Senators are going to go with the O.

If you’ve been following along with the conversation over the summer, you’ll know the clues have been piling up.  First it was a subtle change on the team’s official website.  Shortly after that, fans noticed that most of the team’s marketing materials featured the popular =O= logo.  Even Eugene himself was spotted around town with the new look in hand.

Belleville’s jersey were launched earlier this month and it may have been the strongest indication yet that the organization was prepared to embrace the heritage look.

Then the front of the CTC got a new look and yesterday, the logo at centre ice.

Literally all signs put out by the organization this off-season point to the possibility of a full scale re-brand, ditching the 3D senturion look and embracing a more simple, more classic look.

It’s been a long time coming.

From the moment new Team President Tom Anselmi arrived in Ottawa, it was clear that a re-imagining of the team’s brand was on his radar.

And while he may have downplayed the possibility in some of his interviews, the steps taken this summer suggest that it’s a priority for the organization in the very near future. Either that or they are marketing the hell out of that Outdoor game.

Of course, the elephant in the room here is those truly unfortunate Adidas jerseys that were launched a couple months back.

The organization may indeed be considering a new look but they are committed to the current Adidas design for at least one season.  And as everyone knows, Adidas has made it clear that each team will only have two uniform designs this year. No third jerseys.  So that means, outside of the Outdoor Game in December, the Senators will be stuck with their old look, even while everything else is changing around them.

Either way, it seems like a giant step in the right direction for the organization and a good indication they may finally be listening to fans on this sort of thing.

Now, how do we get them to design a red jersey featuring the 2D logo?
