Chlapik, Rodewald Recalled From Belleville

The early season roster shuffling continues for the Ottawa Senators.

Earlier today, the organization did the expected and returned Logan Brown to the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

But with Kyle Turris expected to miss a game or two with the flu, and Zack Smith and Bobby Ryan already out, there were still a couple holes to fill up front.

Enter Jack Rodewald and Filip Chlapik.

Forward depth was probably an issue for this team even with a full line up but they are being pushed to the limit right now.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of day for Jack Rodewald.

The undrafted 23 year old just signed his entry level contract with the organization yesterday and now appears poised to make his NHL debut as early as tomorrow night.

A fast skating right-winger with size, Rodewald has sort of come out of nowhere for the organization in the last couple years.  He scored 18 goals in 66 AHL games last year and has followed that up with another hot start this year (3 goals, 1 assist in 5 games).

Meanwhile, the 20 year Chlapik has been one of the organization’s fastest rising prospects.

After a less than impressive showing in rookie camp two years ago, Chlapik completely reinvented himself as a player and took the advice he received from the organization to heart.  He was a different player last year, putting up an impressive 91 points in 57 games in the QMJHL and carrying that over that momentum into Training Camp and Preseason where he clearly caught the eye of Guy Boucher.

While Chlapik has just 3 points in his first 7 AHL games, he’s shown flashes of skill down there.  He certainly looked like a legitimate NHL prospect during his preseason opportunities too.

Rodewald and Chlapik join a roster that already includes a couple call-ups in Chris DiDomenico and Max McCormick.
