Anderson Out with Concussion

The Ottawa Senators returned from their holiday break this morning.

Well, some of them did anyway.

With another Friday/Saturday back-to-back lined up this weekend, it sounds like the Sens will be without their number one goalie.

Craig Anderson was absent from practice with what the team is calling a concussion.  Anderson was pulled from the game last Friday in New Jersey and wasn’t dressed the following night against the Capitals. And now we know why.

As is often the case with concussions, there’s no timeline on Andy’s potential return although he has been ruled out for both weekend games.

Marcus Hogberg was recalled from Belleville and according to Guy Boucher, he will play one of the two weekend games.  Either tomorrow night against the Islanders or on Saturday against the Washington Capitals.

It will be nice to finally get a look at the 24 year old Hogberg.  Ever since the acquisition of Filip Gustavsson, Hogberg has become the forgotten man. Although to this point, he has pretty clearly outplayed Gustavsson in the American Hockey League.  He is four years older though and obviously has more North American experience.

Good chance for Hogberg to show where he’s at in his development.

There were a couple other injury notes from today’s practice as Justin Falk was also diagnosed with a concussion.  He will miss both weekend games.

And a little bit of good news as Jean Gabriel Pageau made a surprise appearance in a regular contact jersey.  Still no timeline for his return but it’s safe to say he is ahead of schedule.
