Alfredsson Also Wants Melnyk Out

First of all, thanks to Daniel Alfredsson for one again giving us all something to talk about during a usually quiet part of the year.

For the second time in a week, the former-Captain provided some interesting commentary on the state of the Ottawa Senators although this time it comes under less than ideal circumstances. Yesterday, Alfredsson made an appearance at the re-election campaign for Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and provided his surprisingly candid thoughts on the state of the team in a conversation with former Ottawa Sun writer Susan Sherring.

See the only problem is Alfie thought he was making the comment off the record. Or at least he hoped they were off the record after he made them.

Either way, that wasn’t the way Ms. Sherring saw it and as a result, we now can finally confirm that Daniel Alfredsson isn’t a fan of Eugene Melnyk. Shocking, I know.

While Alfredsson’s comments certainly won’t come as a surprise, the fact that they are articulated so clearly (“We hope we get a new Owner”) is what makes this story noteworthy.

Sure, almost everybody has expressed a similar sentiment at one point or another but to see the most popular player in franchise history put it so abruptly is certainly interesting. And that Ottawa Mayor and NCC non-voting board member Jim Watson thinks the same thing is especially relevant.

The fact that those two have apparently discussed this topic at length suggests that they too have heard those lingering rumours about the current state of Sens Ownership.

And and what started as a off the record conversation is now getting national news coverage.

Pretty good way to start the week!
