Slow down, Pierre. Save some Sens news for the month of August!
This afternoon, the Ottawa Senators announced that they have signed first round pick Lassi Thomson to a three year entry-level contract.
Here’s Pistol Pete with his thoughts on the transaction.
“Lassi has great offensive instincts and an NHL-calibre shot. He also brings a high compete level – he’s always moving his feet and driving the pace of play. We came away from development camp in Ottawa very impressed and feel that he is going to be an important piece of our team’s future.”
It will be interesting to see what this means for Thomson heading into next season.
There had been some talk about a possible return to Finland but staying in North America is an option too. He spent last season with the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets and he’s technically eligible to play in the AHL next season.
No decision made so far although signing him to an entry-level deal now probably means the Senators will at least have a say in where he ends up next season.
While there was some criticism of the selection on Draft Day, Thomson made a pretty good first impression and turned heads at the team’s summer development camp.
With Chabot, Brannstrom, Jaros, Wolanin, Bernard-Docker and now Thomson around, it looks like the blueline is in pretty good shape for years to come.
