After top prospect Mikael Wikstrand made the decision to return to Sweden last week, Bryan Murray was clear that he was looking for a little additional depth on the blueline.
And this afternoon, Bryan Murray found his guy.
The Ottawa Senators have reached an agreement with defenceman Mark Fraser. Fraser was released from his professional tryout agreement with the Toronto Maple Leafs after being contacted by the Senators.
According to Bruce Garrioch, it’s a two way contract that will see Fraser make $800,000 if he plays in the NHL and $125,000 at the AHL level.
Fraser is a tough defenceman although not overly skilled. More than anything, this is about an additional veteran presence for the team in Binghamton and a guy that can play an NHL shift if the injury bug strikes.
Fraser, who is from Ottawa, has played 219 games at the NHL level including 34 with the New Jersey Devils last season.
