While the future of the 2019/2020 NHL season remains up in the air, Sens General Manager Pierre Dorion continues to prepare his team for the future.
And it sounds like those preparations will soon include the addition of another right-shot defenceman.
According to Hailey Salvian at The Athletic, the Ottawa Senators have a verbal commitment from KHL defenceman Artyom Zub.
According to the report, Zub will officially sign his contract during the first week of May. Zub’s KHL contract does not officially expire until April 30th.
It will be interesting to see what this means for the rest of Ottawa’s blueline heading into next year. Both Ron Hainsey and Mark Borowiecki will be unrestricted free agents this summer.
In Zub, the Senators are getting a player that they feel can step directly into their line up next season. He’s coming off a breakout year in the KHL, scoring 13 goals in 52 games with SKA St. Petersburg.
