Just prior to the start of yesterday’s team skills competition, the Ottawa Senators made a roster move that suggests maybe one of their injured players is closing in on a return.
Nick Paul, who has appeared in the last six games with the big club, was returned to Belleville of the American Hockey League.
Roster update: The #Sens have reassigned Nick Paul to Belleville (AHL).

Either that means one of Zack Smith or Gabriel Dumont is ready to return (both players participated in yesterday’s skills competition) or someone else is on the way up.
If they do call-up someone else, this seems like a good time to give Colin White an extended look.
His game has been trending in the right direction in Belleville recently and it would be nice to see where he’s at in his development. White has been playing both centre and right wing in the AHL so there should be no issue finding room for him in the line up.
We’ll find out what the Senators have in mind over the next couple days.
Ottawa’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday in Detroit. They’ll return to the practice ice tomorrow morning.
Happy New Year everyone!
