It’s been so long.
It was March 11th, actually.
The Senators lost a late night game to the Los Angeles Kings. We didn’t know it at the time but when the final horn sounded, sometime shortly after 1:00 AM, it was the beginning of what has been an eternity without Sens hockey.
272 days. 6528 hours. 391,680 minutes. 23.5 million seconds.
The idea of sitting down to watch the Ottawa Senators play a hockey game seems like a distant memory.
Yet finally….maybe…we can start the countdown to a new season.
Late last night, news broke that the NHL and NHLPA agreed to drop the financial discussions that have threatened to derail a season entirely and instead are focusing all their efforts on hammering out the details of a return to play.
And while there is a ton of work still to be done and while the experience of other leagues suggests the work never really stops when you’re trying to play sports in the middle of a global pandemic, it’s a step in the right direction.
Some Ottawa players have already returned to the city to begin their quarantine period.
January 13th is the target. The Senators could open Training Camp as early as December 28th.
Three weeks!
