The morning after an ugly loss in their preseason finale, the Ottawa Senators made three roster moves in preparation for the start of the regular season.
And it’s not great news for the organization’s top prospect.
Thomas Chabot was demoted to Belleville this morning, coming up short in his bid to crack the NHL roster. For now, anyway. Ben Harpur is also on his way to Belleville while Max McCormick was placed on waivers and will join those two assuming he clears tomorrow at noon.
The news on Chabot will come as a bit of a surprise as it certainly seemed as though he did enough to rank among the team’s six best defenceman.
Although with a top prospect, the decision obviously isn’t that simple. While there’s no doubt he could help this team right now, the organization clearly feels as though some time in Belleville will help his development.
If Erik Karlsson can spend time in the American Hockey League, so can Chabot. Speaking of which, the fact that two defenceman are heading down seems like a good sign for Karlsson’s status.
Logan Brown and Alex Formenton both remain with the team for now.
