The Ottawa Senators are doing their best to keep busy during the CBA negotiations, this time signing forward Zack Smith to a four extension.
Similar to the deal signed with Turris, Smith had another season remaining on his current contract. The extension will see Smith earn an average of $1,887,500 per season.
Assuming the organization sees Zack Smith filling that third line centre role, this is pretty good value for Smith. In 81 games last season, Smith racked up 14 goals and 26 points, along with 98 penalty minutes.
With guys like Carkner, Konopka and Foligno leaving this off season, Smith will be one of the guys counted on to pick up the slack in the team toughness department.
