SensChirp Gets the Call- Game Day Update

SensChirp April 4, 2012 0

(UPDATE 8:10 AM)– Just about to head out to catch the morning skate scheduled for 10:15 AM. The message for me is simple, don't do or say anything stupid. Could be a challenge.  Will try to update the blog afterwards but be sure to keep an eye on @SensChirp on Twitter for updates throughout the morning.

After nearly three years of operating the SensChirp blog, not to mention a couple years on the Sportsnet message boards as Chara03 and JoseCuervo, SensChirp is finally getting the call.

Tomorrow, when the Ottawa Senators host the Boston Bruins, I will be looking on from the press box.  Yep that’s right, the little blog that could is finally getting an opportunity to mingle with the pros.  I only hope they're ok with me wearing a mask to hide my identity.

Included in this rare, behind the scenes glimpse of life in the media, will be access to the pregame skate and coach’s press conference, a cushy seat in the press box (although I’m entirely prepared/expecting to stand) and a chance to speak with the players after the game.

Now I realize that while this is a cool opportunity, by no means is it an indication that I’ll be crossing the line from blogger to media.  I know my role.  I’m not a journalist.  This is a fan site and it always will be.  But for a kid who grew wanting to write about the Ottawa Senators rather than play for the Ottawa Senators, this is a pretty special opportunity.

And for that, I have to say thanks to the Senators organization.  They are thinking outside the box by inviting bloggers in like this and I think it’s something fans of the organization really appreciate.

But the reality is this would not be happening if not for the loyalty and support of the readers on this site.  Through the ups and the downs, the scoops gone wrong and the overhauls to the website format, the readers have remained loyal.  The community we've developed has become one of the best places on the internet to talk Sens hockey and that is because of you, the reader. Thanks to all of you!

For updates, be sure to follow me on Twitter @SensChirp.  I’ll be updating the blog in the afternoon with the usual Game Day post.

  • With last night’s loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, the Sens will now finish in either seventh or eighth in the East.  That means they’ll be opening up the playoffs against the Rangers or Bruins, with Boston still the most likely first round opponent.
  • Thanks to everyone that joined in last night’s fan led Alfie tribute.  With each period the chant seemed to pick up steam and by the third period, fans really seemed to be getting the hang of it.  Here’s hoping it’s a tradition that continues on Thursday night against the Bruins.  That and a "Yes We Can" chant of course.
  • Sens are on the ice for practice at noon today. Will post updates at the bottom of the blog when they become available.
