The Ottawa Senators flipped the script a little bit on Sunday night, hanging on to a third period lead and upending the Leafs by a 3-2 final. The win is the sixth straight for the Sens.
Ottawa goals came from Colin Greening, Chris Neil and Kaspars Daugavins, his first in the NHL.
It wasn't as dramatic as the other night in New York but the Sens were still forced to play catch up after Clarke MacArthur gave the Leafs a 1-0 lead.
Ottawa bounced back quickly though as rookie David Rundblad made one the most unbelievable passes I think I've ever seen live, going tape to tape from his own end to the opposite blueline to spring Colin Greening. Greening beat the Leaf goalie high on the glove side and pulled Ottawa even.
Greening is quietly putting together a very strong year and now finds himself among the rookie scoring leaders with four goals and 8 points through the first twelve games.
Game winner went to Kaspars Daugavins who snuck one by Gustavsson, a shot the Leafs goalie would love to have back. Daugavins has looked extremely comfortable during this call up and could be sticking around for awhile. MacLean raved about him in his post game news conference and has shown a lot of confidence in Daugavins in all situations.
This was also a really strong outing for Robin Lehner. He really got thrown into the fire against the Leafs and stood tall, stopping 23 of 25 shots. His post to post blocker save in the third period was as good as it gets.
And once again, Erik Karlsson was a star on the blueline. He logged 24:16 in ice time, was solid on the defensive side of things and picked up his league leading 12th assist of the season on his way to a first star performance. It's scary to think just how good this kid is going to be.
The world just seems like a better place the morning after a win over the Leafs. There was a ton of blue in the building last night but by the end it was the Sens fans making all the noise!
The Sens have this morning off and will be back on the ice ahead of their game with the Bruins on Tuesday night in Boston. Captain Daniel Alfredsson is not expected to make the trip.
