The Ottawa Senators wrapped up their annual rookie tournament with a convincing 6-2 win over the rival Toronto Maple Leafs.
Shane Prince, Mark Stone and Vince Dunn each scored twice and helped the Sens rally from an early 2-0 deficit with six unanswered goals. The Senators finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, outscoring the opposition by an impressive 14-6 margin.
Plenty of players stood out for the Sens over the three games but it was the more experienced players that seemed to really dominate in this tournament.
The trio of Jean Gabriel Pageau, Mark Stone and Shane Prince all put together excellent games and will all be in the mix for a roster spot when the main camp opens later this week. Of that group of three, the showing by Shane Prince has to be the most encouraging. While he is sometimes the forgotten prospect in this organization, he showed that he's close to making the jump to the NHL.
Will be interesting to see how he carries over this strong start during training camp and the pre season.
The Senators play their team golf tournament on Tuesday, have medical testing on Wednesday and hit the ice for the first time on Thursday. They'll open the preseason on Sunday night in Winnipeg.
