After a summer of quietly trying to trade Jim, O’Brien, Bryan Murray tried his luck on the waiver wire yesterday, to see if there would be any interest.
Not surprisingly, there was no claim today on O’Brien. Now that he has officially cleared waivers, the Senators can send him to Binghamton. That doesn’t necessarily mean they will but the fact that he has cleared is a pretty good indication they are running out of options
The Senators are obviously not overly keen on paying Jim O’Brien NHL money to play in the American Hockey League.
Jim O’Brien just never seemed to develop into the player the organization hoped when they made him the 29th overall selection in the 2007 Entry Draft. And while O’Brien worked his way into the line up last season, he completely fell out of favour with the Coaching staff towards the end of last season.
With so many young players pushing for a spot on this year’s roster, the writing was on the wall for Jim O’Brien and his one way contract.
Corey Cowick, Nathan Lawson, Tyler Eckford also cleared waivers at noon today.
