McElhinney Starts in Tampa

The Senators are getting hot at a really unfortunate time.

Great for the confidence of the young guys in the line up but not ideal with draft positioning at the front of the minds of most fans. Right now Ottawa is still comfortable in the 29th position (3 pts back of the Avs) but the teams in front of them are dropping, and fast. The Panthers and Avalanche are both playing awful hockey the last little while and are showing no signs of turning it around.

With that in mind, Clouston announced this morning that back up Curtis McElhinney will make his first start in a Sens uniform. Anderson has started the last nine so this was a good time to get him some rest, especially in the second game of a back to back. The Sens are not expected to make any changes to a line up that has now won three straight.

Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.

Greening-Spezza-Butler
Foligno-Smith-Neil
Condra-Shannon-Svatos
Potulny-Winchester-Lessard

Phillips-Lee
Kuba-Karlsson
Gonchar-Smith

Puck drop is at 7:30 PM For the first time in a little while, I won’t be taking in the game live tonight. Going to head down to the Civic Centre to watch another one of the top ranked prospects in the upcoming draft in action.

Ryan Strome and his Niagara Ice Dogs are in town tonight to take on the 67’s. Strome is a guy the Sens organization thinks very highly of with some scouts having him ranked as high as #2. He has 99 points in 66 games this season and has scored a number of highlight reel goals. Will try to provide an update tomorrow.
