(UPDATE 5:42 PM)- No pen on paper just yet but maybe some positive news related to the Captain. Daniel Alfredsson apparently spoke with a Swedish TV station and indicated that he believes something will get done either tonight or tomorrow and suggested with Ottawa. Meanwhile his agent told the Sun's Bruce Garrioch that it's down to Ottawa, Boston and Detroit. Sure sounds like the Captain is staying where he belongs but still waiting for official word.
(UPDATE 12:21 PM)- Yesterday I received word that the Ottawa Senators were speaking to a unrestricted free agent and this afternoon, Hockey Central is reporting that former-Devils forward David Clarkson was here in Ottawa for a visit. Not entirely sure how I feel about that possibility but Clarkson is believed to be one of the most sought after free agents on this year's open market.
A fan base starved for some good news got some this morning as the Ottawa Senators have announced they have signed Head Coach Paul MacLean to a three year extension.
MacLean is coming off a season where he led the Senators to a surprising playoff appearance despite a ridiculous run of injuries that threatened to derail this team's season. MacLean was recognized for his efforts, earning the Jack Adams Award for the National Hockey League's top coach.
Here is a picture of Coach MacLean putting pen to paper on that extension. The future is in good hands with him behind the bench.
Ken Warren mentioned on Twitter that the Ottawa Senators will discuss this extension with the media later this afternoon. Perhaps they will have some other good news for fans at that time?
