As the calendar flips to October, there is still no real indication the National Hockey League will be back in action any time soon.
Despite a weekend full of conversation, including one on one discussions between Bettman and Fehr, a new Collective Bargaining Agreement still feels like a pipe dream and we are now just a couple days away from the cancelation of regular season games.
If you’re looking for positives, I guess the fact that the two sides are talking is a good thing.
Discussions held on Sunday represented a third consecutive day of meetings but reaction afterwards seemed anything but positive. The talks over the weekend primarily seemed to steer clear of the core economic issues that are the cause of the significant gap between the two sides.
Until there is serious conversation on that front, there is no reason to believe NHL hockey will be back anytime soon.
Meanwhile, in Binghamton, the Senators farm team is wrapping up their first weekend of training camp and over in Finland, Erik Karlsson has already notched his first goal for his new team in Jokerit.
One interesting note from BSens camp is the fact that Mika Zibanejad has started training camp as a left winger. With Spezza, Turris and Smith locked in as the Sens first three centres in Ottawa, Zibanejad has a better chance of cracking the big club as winger. He skated on the left side, with Da Costa in the middle on Petersson on the other wing over the weekend.
