(UPDATE 11:19 AM)- And now the Ottawa Senators have made the official announcement that they have indeed signed defenceman Jared Cowen to a four year deal. As mentioned earlier, the cap hit is believed to be in the neighbourhood of $3.1 mil per season. Here is the press release from the team.
While no official announcement has been made just yet, it looks like Bryan Murray is close to crossing the last items from his off season to do list.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun is reporting that the two sides have reached an agreement on a four year deal worth just over $12 million dollars. The deal is believed to carry a cap hit of $3.1 mil a season. In the end, a great deal for both sides.
After a lengthy negotiation, Bryan and Tim Murray get Cowen locked up to a medium term deal they were hoping for and with a reasonable cap hit. Cowen is expected to play a big role on this team this season and in the future so having him signed to a reasonable contract is great news for the Senators.
The deal comes just one day before the Sens play their preseason opener in Winnipeg against the Jets.
Rumour has it the Senators will make another important announcement later today, naming their new Captain for this coming season. As I've said all along, I would be shocked if the C doesn't go to Jason Spezza.
