While his potential final season continues to remain stuck in lockout limbo, today is a significant milestone for the Captain of the Ottawa Senators.
Daniel Alfredsson, the one they call Alfie, turns 40 years old today. He is the undeniable face of the franchise, the NHL's longest serving captain, and one of the classiest players and more importantly people, in all of the National Hockey League.
With more than 1,100 games in an Ottawa uniform, Alfredsson has racked up 416 goals, 666 assists and an incredible 1,082 points. He has added another 90 points in a franchise record 111 playoff games.
The thought that this lockout may have ended Alfredsson's career adds additional anger for fans in the Nation's Capital.
The guy has given so much to this team, this organization and this city, that he deserves an appropriate send off whenever he does decide to hang 'em up. Here's hoping cooler heads will prevail on the CBA front and fans across the league will have the privilege of watching Alfredsson back on the ice for at least one last season.
Happy Birthday Alfie!
