It was discussed on this site back in the middle of July and today became official as the Ottawa Senators have locked up forward Colin Greening to a three year contract extension.
Obviously the extension wasn't as imminent as it seemed more than a month ago but it was clear Bryan Murray and the Senators were interested in retaining Greening. The deal will see Newfoundland native earn an average of $2.65 million a season.
While I do believe the two sides discussed a longer term deal earlier this summer, in the end they settle on three years. It's a reasonable contract for Greening who has shown that he can produce when put into the team's top six forwards.
Just not sure there is room there for him with so many of the team's young and talented prospects seemingly ready to make the jump. Will be interesting to see how MacLean uses him this season.
