(UPDATE)- At 102 the Sens grab Tobias Lundberg and at 108 the Sens get Ben Harpur. With the 78th pick the Ottawa Senators take 6’5 Swedish goaltender Marcus Hogber
(UPDATE) The Ottawa Senators select at 17th overall Curtis Lazar from the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL.It feels like just yesterday we were watching the Chicago Blackhawks hoist the Stanley Cup yet here we are set to kick off one of the biggest days of the NHL off season.
The NHL Entry Draft goes this afternoon in New Jersey beginning at 3:00 PM.There is plenty of drama and intrigue as experts agree that not only could there be some surprises in the Draft order but also a couple trades to spice things up throughout the day. The Ottawa Senators hold the 17th pick heading into the days festivities but are expected to be active throughout the day.
As has been the case for Bryan Murray all week, it seems like all options remain in play. While the are content to draft at 17, they have actively explored options to move up in the Draft. They also listen to offers to move the pick down if it means adding an additional pick in Round 2.
Murray will be actively scouring the market for a top six forward throughout the day. He obviously won’t be alone in that search as many GMs seem to be keen on making a splash this afternoon. And of course Murray has that other bit of business- signing his Captain to a new contract. Murray has suggested HST he would like to begin that negotiation at some point this weekend.
I’ll do my best to keep things updated over the course of the afternoon. Enjoy the day, Sens fans!
