The much-hyped Stephane Da Costa sweepstakes have come to an end. There has been plenty of speculation over the last 48 hours but the Merrimack College forward has picked the Ottawa Senators.
Contract details were not immediately available but it is expected to be the max amount on an entry level deal.
Da Costa is a playing making centre that has been on the radar of just about every NHL team this season. A native of Paris, France, Da Costa has racked up 90 points in 67 games during his two seasons at Merrimack.
The Sens were aggressive in their pursuit of Da Costa from the beginning and hope to get him in to the line up as soon as possible. He is a guy with high end skill that has to play in a top six role to really be effective. Ottawa will give him that chance down the stretch and then find out where he fits in moving forward.
Love to see Bryan Murray being proactive with these college guys. Relatively low risk and if they do work out it’s a free prospect in the Sens system.
Welcome to Ottawa, Monsieur Da Costa.
