The rumblings started early yesterday and today, the Ottawa Senators made it official.
Artem Zub is sticking around for the next four years.
Over the course of the season, the Sens got a taste of life without Zub and as they’ve quickly learned, a life without Zub is no life at all. And so, they’ve locked him to a four-year deal with a cap hit of $4.6 million a season.
He gets $4M in 2023-24, $4.8M in 2024-25, $4.8M in 2025-26 and $4.8M in 2026-27.
Zub is a low maintenance defenceman that can play big minutes against top players. Teams are always on the look out for quality right shot options on the back end and that’s why when you find one, you need to lock him up.
Zub was in the last year of his current contract and could have tested free agency this summer. But it was clear that he wanted to stick around and that the Senators wanted him here long term.
In summary…
Zub.
