Brady Tkachuk has only played 142 games in the National Hockey League but sometimes it feels like he’s a ten-year veteran.
He’s a throwback in many ways, playing the game in a style that you rarely see anymore. Goals, assists, hits, fights and the league leader in prickish smiles during goal-mouth scrambles.
The kid can do it all.
And while it’s been said many times before it’s worth repeating- the Ottawa Senators are incredibly fortunate to have Brady Tkachuk on their team. While there were some excellent players in that 2018 Draft Class, Brady really was the perfect fit for the Senators.
Just the right player at the right time for a team desperately searching for a new identity.
Not only is he the kind of player you can build around on the ice, he’s exactly the type of personality you want away from the rink too. Even at such a young age, he understands his role as a hockey player and the impact he can have in the community.
Today, he was recognized for his contributions on and off the ice.
Brady Tkachuk was named Ottawa’s nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.
Daniel Alfredsson won the award back in 2012.
The nominees for this award are selected by their respective teams and the winner will be selected by a committee of senior NHL executives including Gary Bettman and Bill Daly.
So they’ll probably go with someone from Team E then.
The selection committee will apply the following criteria in determining the finalists and winner:
-Clear and measurable positive impact on the community
-Investment of time and resources
-Commitment to a particular cause or community
-Commitment to the League’s community initiatives
-Creativity of programming
-Use of influence; engagement of others
The three finalists for the award will be announced next month.
