When I was younger, I sent an email to my favourite sports writer.
I was in a one-year Communications program at Algonquin College at the time. I had short-term goals of getting into Carleton University and long-term dreams of writing about the Ottawa Senators for a living.
In response to a question about advice for an aspiring journalist, he said three simple words- write, write, write. Even though life and work pulled me in another direction, I’ve always held on to that email. I think it’s a big reason why this site exists today.
In Episode 10, the sender of that email makes an appearance on The SensChirp Podcast.
Bruce Garrioch stops by the virtual studio to talk about a career in sports journalism, the 30th anniversary of Ottawa being awarded an NHL franchise and his recent interview with Eugene Melnyk.
We also go through some rapid fire questions on Brady Tkachuk’s next contract, LeBreton Flats, Logan Brown, Tim Stuetzle, Anthony Duclair and the next Captain of the Ottawa Senators.
Starting to think The SensChirp Podcast might actually be a thing.
