Damn. Just wasn’t ready for it to end.
Sitting here trying to find the right words in a moment like this and they just aren’t there.
It’s not the usual disappointment I feel at the end of the season. It hurts, but not in the same way it usually does. Sometimes at the end of the season I sit there in the minutes, hours, days after the last game and wonder if the team could have given more. But not this year. That was everything they had. For two months, the Ottawa Senators gave us everything they had.
I’m mostly just sad that it’s over. Sad that we won’t get to see one more Ottawa Senators’ miracle.
There were times this year, in early February, where I would sit down to watch a game and wonder if it was still there. If I still felt the same way about watching hockey. Months away from my 30th birthday, I wondered if maybe I was sort of outgrowing the “diehard fan” stage of my life. With a young daughter and all the new responsibilities that came with that, I just wasn’t sure if I still had the energy and the passion to keep this site going and to keep following this team the same way I have since I was 10 years old.
And then the magic kicked in. Then that ride started. And it was I was a kid again. This team and this season reminded me why I love this game so much and why the Ottawa Senators will always be such an important part of my life.
Make no mistake about it, there are good days ahead for this hockey team. With incredible young talent up and down the line up combined with the experience gained in the last two months, the Ottawa Senators will be a force for years to come.
Thanks to all of you for making this another fun season on the site. And thanks to the Ottawa Senators for taking us on one of the most incredible runs in franchise history. I said it at the end of the season but there are sports fans, hell MOST sports fans, that will never experience something like we did this season.
As fans, we are just so lucky to cheer for this hockey team. They gave us a season we’ll never forget.
