With the NHL trade deadline just over a week away, you can expect that rumours will begin to heat up around the National Hockey League. And that includes here in the Nation’s Capital where Bryan Murray has made it known he’s willing to trade young prospects for someone that can help the team down the stretch.
Which is why yesterday’s Twitter rumour about Binghamton Senators forward Shane Prince was especially interesting. Here’s the rumour in question
As trade deadline nears, hearing rumblings Ottawa prospect Shane Prince is considering serious offer from KHL if not traded. #Sens

On the surface it may not look like a whole lot but it almost seemed too random and unprovoked to not at least be partly based on fact. I did some asking around yesterday and it does seem like there may be something to it. I can’t imagine he’s too serious about heading to the KHL but the idea of a trade seems to be something he’s open to. Prince in his second season with the Binghamton Senators and has yet to see any NHL action. He’s played well down there but with other guys ahead of him on the depth chart, he may be concerned about not getting a chance here in Ottawa.
The Buffalo Sabres seem like a possible fit here especially with Tim Murray calling the shots. Murray was here in Ottawa when the Senators drafted Prince in the 2nd round of the 2011 Draft.
The Sens and Sabres have been linked in trade talks with Ottawa signifcant interest in Steve Ott and to a lesser extent, Matt Moulson. Certainly something to keep an eye on leading up to next week’s deadline.
