After losing Jason Spezza, you knew Bryan Murray was looking for a way to fill the void left at the centre ice position and this afternoon he did just that. The Ottawa Senators have signed David Legwand to a two year contract worth $3 million a season.
Legwand has played 977 games in the National Hockey League, picking up 577 points along the way. Until a trade deadline deal to the Detroit Red Wings this past season, he had played his entire career with the Nashville Predators. He’s certainly not flashy but what he does bring is a capable offensive game and defensive responsibility. He should fit in well with the hard-working identity the Senators are going for this season. This is a solid pick up that gives the Senators some depth down the middle.
Will be interesting to see if Murray still has another move up his sleeve or if this added $3 million puts the Sens at their internal budget for this season.
More in a little bit.
