And so it begins.
With the a busy off-season expected in the Nation’s Capital, the Ottawa Senators are finally getting down to business. And it’s with a buyout.
Colin White has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout.
It’s a move that gives the Senators a little more flexibility financially, even though it comes with a bit of a cost. White has three years remaining on his current deal at $4.75 mil a season. And while the buyout will be spread over six years, it saves them more than $10 million in actual dollars.
Kind of a no-brainer from a financial perspective.
While White has always fit in well with the group and was a popular guy in the room, he never really lived up to the expectations that came with that long-term contract. Injuries are a big part of that obviously but with the likes of Shane Pinto and Ridly Greig knocking on the door, the writing was on the wall for White.
Now we’ll wait and see what they plan to do with that newly found budget flexibility.
