Pierre Dorion doesn’t take days off.
This morning, the Senators signed RFA centre Chris Tierney to a two-year contract at a cap hit of $3.5 mil a season.
He gets $2.8 million in the first year and $4.2 million in year two.
Tierney made $2.975 mil last season so it’s actually a slight decrease in year one of the deal before a bigger raise in year two. Pretty good value from Ottawa’s perspective.
Looking at the depth chart, it seems like the now 26-year old Tierney is going to be Ottawa’s top line centre this season. At least until one of the young guys proves they can handle that role.
Tierney put up 11 goals and 37 points in 71 games last season with only the now-traded Jean-Gabriel Pageau seeing more ice time at centre.
While there are questions about where Tierney fits long-term, a two-year deal works from Ottawa’s perspective as it gives them a little bit of time to find out what they have in Josh Norris, Logan Brown and Tim Stützle.
Tierney was scheduled for arbitration on November 8th.
