And the news just keeps on rolling in.
This afternoon, the Ottawa Senators announced they have signed UFA forward Evgenii Dadonov to a three-year contract at a cap hit of $5 million per season.
Dadonov will earn $3.5M in 2020-21, $5M in 2021-22 and $6.5M in 2022-23.
Dadonov is coming off a season where he put up 25 goals and 47 points in 69 games. He had seasons of 70 points and 65 points in the two years prior.
Goes without saying but this is a huge upgrade in Ottawa’s top-six that gives them some much needed offensive punch up front. The 31-year old is a natural winger that will also provide significant boost to Ottawa’s power play. He’s scored 22 power play goals over the last three seasons.
Perhaps what’s most impressive here is the fact that the Senators were apparently one of as many as 10 teams interested in Dadonov’s services. As in, there was a bidding war for this particular unrestricted free agent and the Ottawa Senators won it.
Believe it.
And apparently Pierre Dorion may have a few more tricks up his sleeve this off-season.
Here’s Pierre Dorion on the signing…
“We’re thrilled to have come to an agreement with Evgenii. He’s an elite offensive talent and a very consistent scorer as demonstrated by his point totals over the last three seasons. This is a key signing for us as it adds a player who will help us produce offensively and one with a proven track record on the power-play.”
