This one comes out of left field a little bit. This morning the Senators announced they have signed goaltender Craig Anderson to a three year contract extension.
When Lehner signed his extension late last month, it looked like the Senators were getting great value for their starting goalie. Anderson was entering the final year of his contract and it seemed unlikely that he would be signed to another lengthy deal. But obviously Sens’ management had other plans in mind. The contract itself is actually quite reasonable but it does create an interesting dynamic between the two goalies.
I fully support the idea of having two quality goalies as long as Lehner is given every chance to earn his starts. Healthy competition between these two is obviously a good thing for the organization.
The average annual value of #Sens @CraigAnderson41‘s three-year contract extension is $4.2 million ($4.75M, $4.75M, $3.1M). #MoreBeastmode
