Bryan Murray and his staff have a lot to do this off season and this afternoon, they crossed a minor item off that To-Do List.
The Ottawa Senators announced that they have signed restricted free agent Freddy Claesson to a new one year, two-way contract extension. Claesson will earn $600,000 at the NHL level or $85,000 if he plays in the American Hockey League.

I mentioned this in a previous post but the organization is apparently quite high on Claesson. With eight defenceman on the roster already it’s kind of tricky to see how he gets a look this season but from what I’ve been told so far, they really do want to get him into some NHL games this season.
Claesson is 23 and has spent the last three seasons in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators. During that time, he has solidified himself as one of Binghamton’s top defenceman, extremely responsible in his own end of the rink and able to contribute a little bit on offence.
Will be interesting to see if Claesson gets a look at the NHL level this coming season.
