After a busy weekend in Las Vegas, the news keeps rolling in for the Ottawa Senators.
This morning, the team announced a new contract for UFA to be Chris Wideman. The contract is a one year, two way deal that keeps Wideman in the organization for another season. He’ll earn $600,000 at the NHL level and $400,000 in the American Hockey League. That significant raise at the AHL level (making him the highest paid player in the league) is likely why Wideman was willing to sign another two way deal.
Obviously this is an important move for the Senators who talked wanting to get Wideman locked up over the weekend. With Eric Gryba shipped off the Edmonton, there was an opening there for Wideman. And rather than test the open market, Wideman decided to stick with the organization for another year.
He’ll get a chance with the NHL team next season.
