And then there was one.
With Training Camp now just a few weeks away, Pierre Dorion has crossed one of the lingering items off his To Do List.
Erik Brannstrom has been signed to a one-year contract worth just under a million dollars.
It’s the ultimate “prove it” contract and a case of the Senators using the leverage they had to get Brannstrom signed to a reasonable contract. While Brannstrom guarantees himself a spot on the NHL roster with a one-way contract, he’ll still have to show that the last couple months of the season was no fluke.
Based on the current depth chart, Brannstrom will get plenty of opportunities back there and will have every opportunity to play an even bigger role on the blueline. If he does, he can expect a longer term contract next summer. If he doesn’t, the Senators will be able to decide where he fits in the bigger picture.
Alex Formenton is the last remaining restricted free agent without a contract.
