After dropping nine straight games and the Head Coach suggesting he needed more from his veteran players, the Ottawa Senators have started to shuffle the deck a little bit.
Today, they placed veteran defence Braydon Coburn on waivers.
Moments later, they assigned Jonathan Aspirot from the taxi squad to the AHL and then followed that up with the recall of Erik Brannstrom.
It’s a move fans have been begging for in the last couple days and one that makes sense considering Ottawa’s defensive struggles through the first ten games of the season. While the Senators had hoped to integrate their young players in waves this year, the lingering uncertainty at the AHL level likely altered that plan.
The Senators are travelling today and will be back on the ice tomorrow at 11:30 AM ahead of their game against the division-leading Montreal Canadiens.
