It’s hard to imagine a more perfect Opening Weekend for the Ottawa Senators.
On the ice, in the stands and all around the team – it was all flawless. There has been a lot of hype around this organization over the last few months so with expectations sky-high, there was a lot of pressure to get it right. They delivered in a big way.
Now they turn their attention to building on two big wins over the weekend as they continue this early five-game homestand.
Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals are here on Wednesday night. The Red Wings are here on Saturday afternoon and they’ll close out the homestand with a visit from the Buffalo Sabres next Tuesday.
And based on today’s practice, it seems like some help is on the way.
Josh Norris has been ramping up the intensity of his workout the last little while, including light contact and faceoffs. As of this morning, he’s also holding down a spot on a line with Dominik Kubalik and Drake Batherson and he was taking a turn on the power play too.
Tim Stützle is not on the ice at today’s practice. We’ll see what DJ Smith has to say about his status in a little bit.
