The way the last couple weeks have gone, it felt sort of inevitable. Today, the league finally got around to making a decision.
The Ottawa Senators have been shut down for the week.
That means three games- including Tuesday vs. New Jersey, Thursday vs. Nashville and Saturday vs. New York- have all been postponed. The games will be rescheduled at a later date.
It’s the right decision but what’s not clear is why the league waited this long. While the team has done their best to focus their attention on the ice, it has been pretty apparent that the situation was out of hand.
The league is giving the impression that they are making it up as they go here but it would be interesting to hear an explanation on why they were allowed to play the last three games but not next three. As we have heard from Bruce Garrioch on multiple occasions, the Senators have been asking the league to take this step for about a week now.
Either way, here’s hoping this gives the Senators a chance to reset a little bit and focus on making sure everyone is healthy and ready to play when the schedule resumes next week.
